A Canadian language program is hoping to add more mid north coast Aboriginal languages to its website next year.

The FirstVoices online portal launched it's collection of Gathang pictures and recordings yesterday.

A Gumbaynggirr language section is planned for mid 20-13.

Australian expatriate and project manager Peter Brand said it is an exciting Australian first and he hopes other Indigenous communities will join in.

"It's been a dream of mine for years to return to one day be able to come back to my motherland and share the resources that we've developed," he said.

"I have great hopes that the FirstVoices suite of web apps and iPhone apps and other teacher resources might one day become widely used and appreciated across Australia."
