National Indigenous Languages Education Strategy Project

Over the next two years, First Languages Australia will be working with language centres and education partners on the Commonwealth funded project to support the development of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander language teachers and the teaching of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages.

The project is a partnership between First Languages Australia, language centres, the Commonwealth Department of Education and Skills Development and the Indigenous Languages and Arts program. Work is progressing in three streams:
1. research into best-practice implementation of the Framework for Aboriginal Languages and Torres Strait Islander Languages (the Framework)
2. the development of resources to promote best-practice implementation of the Framework
3. the development of a culturally appropriate Indigenous language education workforce strategy.

Publishing case studies will be a significant part of the first stream of activity, as will the hosting of national video discussions to manage the consultation process. If you have an interest in this project and you are not already on our education stakeholder list please let us know so we can include you in relevant discussions.
