Partnership and collections work updates

First Languages Australia's Senior Data Policy Advisor, Alex Hohoi, recently travelled to Brisbane to attend the Language Data Commons of Australia (LDaCa) committee meeting.

First Languages Australia is an Institution Partner to the LDaCa and are proud to contribute to the common goal of considering the many challenges of first languages data. Whilst in Brisbane Alex also got to participate in the University of Queensland Research and Innovation Week 2024, where LDaCa presented on the significant work it aims to achieve.

Alex was able to provide an update about the work First Languages Australia is doing as part of the national Languages Policy Partnership, including progress on our collections strategy. Collections is a major topic of discussion between First Languages Australia and LDaCa. Alex was able to exchange ideas about the many moving parts of collections work, including governance, access, data safety and cultural safety considerations.

"It was a great opportunity to discuss with experts who have been doing data collections for a long time," Alex said.

Alex is looking forward to more joint discussions through the partnership.
