Bana Guyurru: Queensland Languages Forum Cairns

Bana Guyurru – The Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Languages Forum 2019 was a dynamic event, held in Cairns in May, and enjoyed by over 150 language workers, teachers and connected service providers.

The Queensland Indigenous Languages Advisory Committee developed a range of partnerships to support the event, which was co-hosted with the Pama Language Centre and North Queensland Regional Language Centre. The Queensland Department of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships funded the attendance of language workers across the state's north with the Department of Education bringing educators from around the state. First Languages Australia supported five Young Champions to attend and committee and staff gave presentations on all aspects of the work of the national organisation.

The Forum allowed the Qld Department of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships to conduct final consultations for the soon to be completed Queensland Indigenous Languages Policy.
