Third meeting of the Language Policy Partnership

On October 10-11, the third National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Languages Policy Partnership (LPP) meeting was held in the homelands of the Yawuru people in Rubibi (Broome). The LPP was graciously hosted by Nyamba Buru Yawuru and welcomed to Country by respected Elder Aunty Dianne Applebee. At the beginning of the meeting, the Mabu Yawuru Ngan-ga Language Centre and the Kimberley Language Resource Centre presented on the vital work they’re doing with communities to safeguard and revitalise their languages.

The third LPP meeting focused on:

* progressing work under Outcome & Target 16 of Closing the Gap

* continuing to share data and information across jurisdictions

* further developing the LPP’s 3-year Strategic Plan and Priorities Framework

* exploring the development of national languages legislation.

The LPP has been focused on building a solid partnership with shared understanding and positions at a national level to support, progress, and enable the vital work of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across the Country.
