Queensland launches State Languages Policy

First Languages Australia and the Queensland Indigenous Languages Advisory Committee were involved in an extensive consultation process for the development of the Many Voices, Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Languages Policy.

The consultations also included representatives of language centres and major language programs in Queensland, leading to the release of the policy in early September.

A key message from Many Voices is the right of communities to have their languages supported in future learning and transmission.

The Ministers' state “Our younger generations are the leaders of tomorrow who will be responsible for carrying languages and culture into the future”. The document can be downloaded here.
