Yalbilinya: National First Languages Education Workforce Strategy

Yalbilinya: National First Languages Education Workforce Strategy maps out a future in which Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages are rightfully restored to communities where they were spoken for tens of thousands of years. To realise this future, these languages must be taught, and the teachers, educators, linguistic experts and resource makers involved in the process must come from Indigenous communities.

The Workforce Strategy provides a guide to the steps that need to be taken to develop these roles. It identifies the tools required for teaching First Nations languages in communities that choose to participate. The strategy identifies actions to be undertaken through the next ten years, in the areas of employment, training, professional learning, multilingual communities, community collaboration, leadership, promotion, national coordination and attraction and retention of participants.
