Common Sounds in Our Languages

On July 15, we were pleased to join with Masters of Indigenous Languages Education students at the University of Sydney to launch Common Sounds in Our Languages. Focused on the pronunciation and spelling of common sounds, this language awareness video is intended to help language communities understand that the languages of this continent have many similarities as well as differences. The video is available for public access as a resource to support community language learning, and to help all Australians with their pronunciation of local place names, landmarks, greetings, etc.

The video was produced by Dharug language teacher Jasmine Seymour with contributions from other Aboriginal Community Language Teachers and Master of Indigenous Languages Education graduates including Corina Norman (Dharug), Corey Appo (Wakka Wakka), Gulwanyang Moran (Gathang) Anjilkurri Radley (Gathang), Arlene Mehan (Gathang), Isobel Bevis (Noongar) and Tanille Bainbridge (Gunggari).
