Meeting with Hon Tony Burke MP, Minster for the Arts and Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations

In July, First Languages Australia CEO, Beau Williams, was invited to meet with the Minister for the Arts, Hon Tony Burke MP. This first meeting provided an opportunity to reacquaint Minister Burke with the needs of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages network as he settles into his new role.

Following the meeting the Minister went on to launch the National Cultural Policy Consultations at a Town Hall event in Brisbane. The new policy is intended to build on 'Creative Australia', the national cultural policy launched by Prime Minister Julia Gillard in 2013. Submissions will be received until 22 August. First Languages Australia will be making a submission.
