International Decade of Indigenous Languages Directions Group

The Directions Group met in person three times this year and held numerous online and phone meetings in developing the National Action Plan for the International Decade of Indigenous Languages (IDIL). The Action Plan targets five themes: stop the loss, community is centre, caring for Country, intergenerational knowledge transfer, and truth-telling and celebration. The Directions Group is making excellent progress towards a launch of the Action Plan in the second half of this year. A priorities paper for the Australian Government with three objectives and five areas for policy reform is also being prepared.
