International Decade of Indigenous Languages: Priorities

The International Decade of Indigenous Languages Directions Group released a draft Indigenous Languages Priorities Paper for consultation within the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages sector. Feedback is being incorporated. Once finalised, the paper will be provided to the Australian Government and the Languages Policy Partnership and inform the development of Australia's Action Plan for the International Decade of Indigenous Languages 2022-2032, which will be launched at PULiiMA.

The Directions Group has identified three overarching themes to inform five priority policy reforms requiring immediate action. Activities are listed to enable organisations, governments, and people to consider how they can work to strengthen Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages. Further details are available here.
