Collections work update

First Languages Australia remains a partner in the Language Data Commons of Australia (LDaCA). Our participation in this project is looking to support the collection management needs of language centres, programs and workers, working with a few organisations initially to establish and document strategies and protocols that are likely to have broad relevance to us all.

Examples of projects underway with language centres include:
* A pilot project with ARDS to make an archival version of early recordings, and inform protocols around managing digital collections
* A pilot project with the Far West Language Centre to develop a long lasting collection of language centre resources, including organising files to suit the range of people using the collection.
* Organising and creating archival versions of Batchelor’s Centre for Aboriginal Languages and Linguistics project files, including backup strategy for historic and contemporary material.
* Working with bilingual school literature production centres in the NT to develop a tool for archiving their own materials so that they can manage and access their collections
* Developing export functionality for the Keeping Cultures database to help with long term access to collections for people and organisations using that system

This work is providing a foundation for updating our National Indigenous Languages Collection Strategy.
