Planning for the International Decade of Indigenous Languages

First Languages Australia Manager, Faith Baisden, was elected as one of the Pacific Region's three representatives on the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) Global Task Force for the International Decade of Indigenous Languages 2022–2032.

In May 2021, UNESCO and the Pacific task force representatives hosted a consultative meeting to help frame the Global Action Plan for the decade. Outcomes of the meeting will contribute to the action plan, drawing on the UNESCO General Conference Resolution 74/135, the IYIL2019 Strategic Outcome Document and the Los Pinos Declaration, identifying priorities and future actions for the Pacific region.
