Partnership with the Coalition of Peaks

First Languages Australia is continuing our discussions with the Coalition of Peaks toward membership of the Coalition. In 2019, the Coalition of Peaks negotiated a partnership agreement with the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) that outlines shared decision-making on the design, implementation, monitoring and review of the Closing the Gap strategy.

First Languages Australia and the Coalition of Peaks are keen to formalise this relationship, and to work together to achieve Closing the Gap Target 16, which states:

‘By 2031, there is a sustained increase in number and strength of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages being spoken.’
